Two methods of giving furniture a "shabby" finish |
This chair was sanded slightly and primed with a coat of an eggshell colored paint. Then, two coats of a matte pure white paint were applied. Using a hand sander made it easier to lightly snd the entire piece after it was dry. Then, the areas that would naturally look the most worn were concentrated on. In this case the textured seat, the front rung and the rung where a person would sit back. The eggshell underneath the white is what make the worn areas look more authentic, rahter than just the bare wood alone.

This table has so many uses. It usually holds rolled towels in a bathroom, but could be used as a phone stand in the hall, a nightstand or end table. Several coats of offwhite were applied, and just one coat of sage green on top of that. It was then sanded for the desired effect.
